Materials & Methods
Needles:
I use fine Japanese stainless steel needles that are sterile and disposable. They are silicone tipped for easy insertion and used with a guide tube. The needle technique is gentle and does not require a strong Qi sensation to be effective. The reaction desired is a reduction of pain and/or tenderness in the area of complaint.
Moxabustion:
The technique of burning direct moxa (Artemisia,) is specific to the Japanese style. I use a very pure gold variety of this herb, which burns cooler than the course variety found in most Chinese styles. I apply shuinko cream to protect the skin from burning and burn tiny sesame size pieces on specific acupoints. The therapeutic effect of moxa creates an auto regulatory response and acts as a tonifyer. Shiunko cream can be used therapeutically to heal burns on the skin as well as reduce pain and inflammation.
Magnets:
Magnets can be used for needle sensitive patients or used after the treatment to prolong the effect. I use small 800 gauss gold plated magnets and place them on specific point combinations utilizing north and south poles.
Ion Pumping cords, Triple Bypass cords and Pachi-Pachi:
The ion cords are a device that allows the flow of electrons to move in one direction. They were developed by Dr. Yoshio Manaka, and are made from copper wire and alligator clips with one diode attached to one clip. The therapeutic use has been comprehensively documented treating burns and other traumatic injuries. They are designed to utilize the body’s own electrical current by stimulating the electromagnetic flow in the body. The Triple Bypass cord was developed by Master Kawai and has three alligator clips and two diodes built into the cords. Both of these devices move electrons in one direction and prevent the flow in the other direction. They are placed on the needle or certain points directly on the skin and stimulated with a battery operated Pachi–Pachi, which ionizes the air above the needles.
Diode Rings and Diode Chains:
These products were developed by Master Kawai and work synergistically with the human body. The diodes are mounted in the rings or chains and produce a micro current, which assist certain clinical results. They can be used effectively for joint pain and thyroid imbalances as well as scar tissue pain and neuropathy. There are specially suited for arthritic pain of the elbow, fingers and feet. They are also used to promote healing on stressed, inflamed and injured tissue.
